Resident Evil is an extremely popular franchise. There's no denying that and there is no denying that Resident Evil 4 is one the most popular games within that franchise.

Resident Evil 4 has been ported and remade many times, even with odd hardware appearances such as for mobile phones and the Meta Quest Oculus. Giving this game a full-fledged remake on current-gen technology was a no-brainer.  Of course, this was after Capcom's well-received remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3  which both abandoned their fixed camera-angled style and used an engine similar to what the original Resident Evil 4 had.

Although some fans adore the original gameplay style of the Resident Evil series, this new approach, (introduced in the original Resident Evil 4) brought their franchise to larger audiences while still retaining a dark and ominous tone.

Resident Evil 4 Remake has set a new record reaching 6.48 million copies as of 31st December 2023. This sale figure even beats Resident Evil Village which sold 5.7 million and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard which managed to sell 4.8 million copies.

    Resident Evil - 5.08 million

    Resident Evil 2 - 4.96 million

    Resident Evil 3: Nemesis - 3.50 million

    Resident Evil - Code: Veronica - 2.54 million

    Resident Evil Zero - 5.25 million

    Resident Evil 4 - 13.00 million

    Resident Evil 5 - 14.20 million

    Resident Evil 6 - 11.40 million

    Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - 12.70 million

Although Resident Evil 4 Remake reached 6.4 million units sold, (which is less than many on this list) this still makes Resident Evil 4 Remake the fastest-selling Resident Evil game of the entire series showing a clear projection of upward motion. With the combination of Capcom's impressive sales figures within the franchise and the lightning-fast sales pace of the Resident Evil 4 remake, it's clear that the franchise is here to stay with a bright future in the gaming world.
